How to resist to the movement of polarization sweeping through many harbors of our societies? How do we keep our doors open to the other? The thematic of this first edition of The Compiler Screenings dealt with issues related to borders and boundaries linked to notions of territories, national borders, personal behaviors and social and cultural boundaries in the every day.

The Compiler Screenings name comes from the curatorial project Compiler (2003 – 2012), a DVD series produced by the company Tweaklab in Basel that focused on video and audio works. The spirit of this project was passed on to White Frame moving away from the DVD format onto the screen, transforming the Compiler project into The Compiler Screenings. In cooperation with the Stadtkino Basel, this year’s edition showed works with a timespan of twenty five years of different artistic approaches and preoccupations of established and young Finnish and Swiss artists. We co-curated this edition with Timo Soppela, director of the artists’ association MUU from Helsinki.
